Personal interior design
Having spent many years as the principal and head Designer for The Front Design Group in New York City, a boutique Design firm that focused on the redesign and refreshing of office facilities and suites in the Film and Television ‘post production’ industry, I turned my attention to the hospitality industry. I found a broad scope for creative expression and creative challenge in recreating a mood/theme in a hotel lobby, or bar/restaurant setting. From the art on the walls, to the floral displays and the rooms furnishings, the placement, and lighting of, hand picked objet d'art and accessories is like building a dramatic story. Each piece has a function and purpose. To entertain, and intrigue. Every individual has their own personal fingerprint, and character, no two are alike. Such should be said of a well designed interior space, albeit residential, office or hotel. Colours and textures play a vital role in our moods and emotions, some more obvious than others; red for passion and warmth, white and grays for cool, and calm. Finding the balance between simplicity and theatrical is key to good design. I strive to bring into play all the elements of good design. Clean lines, rich texture and form, with both dramatic and subtle lighting. Peppered with humor, my work reflects my sensibilities in life. Tomorrow is not promised, so let's enjoy today with laughter, and a good glass of wine!
Mission
As a freelance design consultant, for either Corporate, Private residential, or Hospitality design, all of my projects entail detailed extensive research, and the shopping for materials, furniture, lighting fixtures, art and accessories. I provide my client with clear and specific tailored storyboards and drafting design plans, and on site project management of all labour and construction crews to satisfactory completion. I will always look for an opportunity to build something new. To design something unique and personalized to the client, a cabinet, a bookcase, a staircase! Le morceau de la résistance. The primary conversation piece.
I endeavour to present innovative design ideas from computer images (mock ups), sketches and illustration ‘mood boards’ with thorough vendor research and personal shopping from flea markets to antique stores, for art, fixtures and furnishings. The buying, and commissioning, of original artworks, both small and large format, and the installation follow through with artist for clients in private residences, high-end luxury condominiums, and hotels.
